Advise of Property Owner’s Death
If you have recently suffered a loss, the Property Appraiser’s office extends their deepest condolences and wants to ensure the process of updating the property records is as easy as possible during this difficult time. Doing so ensures any mailings regarding taxes due and other official documents that may be tied to our records are sent to the appropriate party.
It is especially important to notify us if there has been a death of the sole owner of a property with homestead exemption as this benefit belonged only to the sole owner. The new owner will need to take steps to prevent costly liens due to undeserved exemptions.
Locate the property on our website by address or owner using Quick Search. Next select the Tools tab (to the right) on the property’s webpage and select Change Mailing Address. This interactive form will help you notify our office of the new mailing address and of the owner’s passing.
Please provide the following to our office as soon as practically possible:
- Death certificate
- Probate filings related to the real property if it exists. This includes Orders Determining Homestead, Personal Representative deeds, and dispositions of property.
If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to one of our friendly and knowledgeable customer service representatives at (727) 464-3207.
